Why Holiday in our Loire Cottage ?

Le Chene Vert is a four bedroomed, 100 year old Loire farmhouse in the traditional longere style of the region. It has big French windows which let the light flood in but with the added benefit of shutters -for when you want a lie-in!  It's our second home so has everything you need, including important things like dishwashers and lots of pots, pans and glasses in the kitchen, and a TV and DVD in the sitting room.

Its secluded location, at the heart of the Haute Bocage, in the Vendee region of the Loire Atlantique, offers you the kind of French holiday of your dreams – peaceful, restful, nestled in truly beautiful countryside, with nature right on your doorstep.

On the other hand, it’s only an hour away from some of the best beaches in Western France and close to some of France’s most popular attractions including the Puy du Fou and Futurescope, so if you have young children you’ll get the best of both worlds. On top of all that, its location means it’s the perfect base for touring the host of nearby chateaux, vineyards and all the other lovely things that France does so very well.

The Vendee

 The Vendee

Department 85 is known as ‘The Vendee’ and is taken from the river that runs through the south-east of the département. After crossing the forest of Mervent it flows through the town of Fontenay-le-Comte, which used to be the capital of Bas-Poitou.  The region’s name was changed to Vendée after the French Revolution of 1789 until Napoleon decided his soldiers could keep the Vendeans in order more easily from La Roche-sur-Yon. The river meanders on through the marshes to meet the Sevre Niortaise, and turns west to meet the sea in the bay known as the Anse de l'Aiguillon.

The sun shines down on the Vendee for an amazing 2,500 hours a year and is recorded as the second sunniest region after the South of France. It’s known for its fields of sunflowers, which in summer stretch as far as the eye can see.

There are 140 kilometres of gorgeous sandy beaches down the sweeping coastline of the Vendee, many of which are European Blue Flag accredited for their cleanliness and water quality.
